How To Toilet Train A Puppy

how to toilet train a puppy

Many new puppy owners ask the question, “How to toilet train a puppy?” This can have a big impact on whether or not the new puppy stays in the home.

That might sound horrible, but unfortunately, if some owners cannot get the toilet training under control, they give up on the dog and pass it on to another owner to deal with.

It is not the puppy’s fault, but toilet training has to be done right from the start to get the owner and the new puppy into the swing of things.

The owner needs to know how often and when to take the puppy to the toilet. The puppy also needs to learn where to do its business, when to hold it, and have better bladder control.

Can an 8-week-old puppy be toilet trained? The simple answer is yes. The moment your new puppy comes through the door, you need to start training ASAP.

This can be done by getting the puppy out on regular occasions to where you would like it to toilet, watching for signs like circling around the room and over-sniffing, and then also putting your puppy out after it wakes up from sleeping, after it has played, after being fed, and after it has taken on water.

In the beginning, you need to provide a lot of supervision to cement the behaviours you want and train your puppy to toilet outside.

How do you stop a puppy from peeing and pooping in the house?

As mentioned above, patience and repetition daily are needed to look for the tell-tale signs and wake, feed, water, etc.

Other factors may explain why your puppy keeps toileting in the home, including medical reasons like a urinary tract infection or factors related to the outside world that may make it toilet inside, too.

With there being so many factors on how to toilet train a puppy, I have put together a simple Free downloadable guide to help you stop a puppy from peeing and pooping in the house.
